August 18, 2023 ________________________________________ Full-time Mail Clerks needed to support the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) Official Mail Program located at Ft.
Bragg.
The Mail Clerk will support mission critical services in the receipt, distribution, scanning, inspection, and processing of official and unofficial mail.
The ideal candidate will have basic computer proficiency, organization skills, diligence and attention to detail, exceptional customer and interpersonal skills.
The candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET Clearance and pass a mail exam after 30 days of training.
Major responsibilities include (not all inclusive):
Following procedures outlined in postal references and the local Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for receiving, processing, accounting and distributing official and personal mail, and will preserve and protect the integrity and security of the mail at all times.
Knowledgeable in processing different classes of USPS mail (ex:
official registered mail, certified, insured, etc.
) and commercial packages.
Pick up and accept official mail from the United States Postal Service (USPS) to have the mail scanned before taken to the mail room.
Receive carriers (e.
g.
, Federal Express, DHL, and UPS) packages from the scanning room, twice daily or when informed that packages are ready for pick up for delivery through the mail room.
Inspect all accountable official mail before receiving from the USPS to ensure that accountable official mail is for USASOC and its subordinate commands.
Check commercial packages against scanning room logs to verify packages are accounted for and undamaged prior to signing any logs.
Notate damaged mail/packages to ensure acknowledgement by the carrier to alleviate the mail clerk of possible liability.
Operate various types of government motor vehicles to pick up and deliver mail to their work sites.
Use disposable gloves and mask in the handling of all USPS mail pieces and commercial packages before mail is deemed safe to deliver.
Inspect the mail for suspicious writing, markings, and addresses and take appropriate actions if mail piece deemed out of the ordinary.
Immediately notify the Postal Officer/COR, the Site Manager and the Security Officer at a minimum.
Mail received shall be sorted and made ready for delivery daily.
Ensure that all incoming USPS mail, official distribution and commercial deliveries received are scanned through a parcel x-ray machine prior to sorting and distributing items through mailrooms and before addressees are notified.
Inspect all accountable mail before signing for them from the USPS and shall ensure that the mail is addressed to proper locations at Fort Bragg.
Upon returning to the mail room, record all accountable mail before placing mail in the GSA safe and before issuing to addressees.
Ensure all mail with a tracking number is signed for by the addressee or an authorized agent.
Collect personal mail from designated mail drop boxes areas and deposit mail as is in the appropriate mail slot at the Installation Post Office.
At the end of the workday, verify/inventory undelivered accountable mail and secure unclaimed accountable mail inside the provided GSA approved safe.
Ensure all work areas are secure when exiting the building.
Maintain complete and accurate records and files of documents and reports in The Army Records Information Management System (ARMIS); and will use a government provided computer to create file labels, create or update directory files and when notifying individuals to collect mail from the mail rooms.
Prepare for unannounced weekly inspections by the USASOC/ USAJFKSWCS Postal Officer and quarterly inspections by the OMDC Postal Officer.
Education & Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED.
Work experience in DOD mail operations center.
Meet all qualifications for handling official mail set forth in DOD Manual 4525.

Work with others in a team atmosphere with minimal supervision.
Shows pride in work, pays close attention to detail, adapt and provide excellent customer service.
Current valid North Carolina state driver license for the operation of government vehicle in the performance of mail duties.
Obtain or possess a Secret security clearance before the start of employment.
Have no permanent physical restrictions prohibiting duty involving prolonged standing, walking, or lifting of weights up to 70 pounds, but could exceed this weight limit.
No limitations preventing them from working in inclement weather conditions.
Ability to pass a corporate background investigation and drug screening.
