CST Procedure Focused (ENT)

The Procedure Focused Certified Surgical Technologists are multi-skilled health professionals who work interdependently with other healthcare professionals to provide quality healthcare to the patient.
They are trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills with extensive experience in surgical preparation and assisting.
The Surgical Tech will be required to come in before normal business hours and stay after normal business hours on a regular basis as needed when the Surgeon is in surgery outside of the clinic.
The CSTs will also work in general clinic with the providers when there are not in procedures/surgeries in or outside clinic.
The goal of the clinical staff is to optimize outcomes and improve the quality of life for patients through efficient, cost effective care.

Patient Satisfaction/Responding to Patientsa) Appropriately schedules time off/Limit unscheduled absencesb) Respond to telephone inquiries relating to department servicesc) Return patient calls promptlyd) Provide clean and comfortable environment for patientse) Perform all duties in a timely and efficient mannerf) Notify Patient of test results in a timely manner per clinic/department policy.

Prepare patients for examinations and proceduresa) Ensure consents, supplies, equipment and charts are prepped and set up prior to proceduresb) Greet and arrive the patientc) Follow patient verification protocold) Provide high level of customer servicee) Accurately obtain and record medical histories verify all allergies, medications, and vital signs per clinic and department protocol3.
Order, collect and prepare laboratory specimens as neededa) Handle and care for patient clothing, other personal property including prosthetic devices, hearing aids, dentures, glasses and contact lenses from admission to discharge4.
Explain treatment proceduresc) Ensure proper consents have been signed prior to the procedure by both the patient and MDd) Observe procedural time outs per facility policy prior to a casee) Draw up injections as ordered by MDf) Explain and Perform Venus Freeze treatments on patients as needed5.
Assist the physician during examinations and procedures as neededa) Become proficient and assist assigned surgeon with all levels of surgery cases requested M-F at Surgery Center of Pinehurst and Moore Regional Hospitalb) Provide educational materials and aftercare instructionsc) Supply proper equipmentd) Applies universal precautions and maintain a sterile field as appropriate for procedurese) Prepare dressingsf) Clean and dress wounds by order of physiciang) Take photographsh) Remove staples or suturesi) Prepare and administer medications as directedj) Order x-rays and/or culturesk) Respond to prescription requests/refillsl) Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physicianm) Escort patient to the secretary, patient access service associate, or financial counselorn) Prepare pathology form, cup collection label, log and record per policyo) Recognize and respond to emergencies per policy6.

Ensure Patient & Staff Safetya) Follow OSHA guidelinesb) Follow universal precautions when caring for patients; Use PPE as directedc) Follow all PSC policies when caring for patientsd) Safely transport patients to and from procedure rooms as necessary; assist with ambulation and wheel chairse) Ask for assistance when needed for lifting or transfer patientsf) Maintains CEU's and other requirements to safely care for patients in PSC procedure rooms, and at SCOP and MRH if applicable at all times11.
Proactively Assist in Fiscal Management of Clinic Resourcesa) Assist with maintaining established par levels on regularly used suppliesb) Avoid the need to over-night items or pay increased shipping fees for rush ordersc) Notify manager or discuss with peers blocks of time when there are no appointments to maximize down time completing tasks that are difficult to due during a busy clinic12.
Work Collaboratively to Promote Patient Volumea) Assist MD's, department manager and marketing director with department promotions as neededb) Look for ways to expand the clinic services and patients.

Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology Program Current Surgical Technologist certification with no restrictions Current BLS Certification required; ACLS required if assisting in surgery outside of the clinic Knowledge of infection control, sterile technique and basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in a clinic setting Ability to use and apply medical terminology appropriately Thorough knowledge of general clinical principles, methodology and measures for outcomes Administrative skills necessary to effectively perform clerical tasks Prior ENT and/or Plastics surgical experience; knowledge of instruments and equipment used in specialty Requires ability to stand for up to eight hours a day, bend, reach, squat, kneel, move, lift of patients and/or equipment up to 50 lbs.
