Optical Engineer

Chipton-Ross is seeking an Optical Engineer for a contract opportunity in Fort Bragg, NC.
Summary:
Designs, analyzes, and tests optical and electro-optical systems and components.
Conducts research and development into phases of physical optics and geometric optics, lasers, laser characteristics, laser maintenance, and broadband optical sources.
Applies research of complex optical systems to achieve desired optical manipulations
Responsibilities:
The candidate(s) must possess expert knowledge of a wide range of visual augmentation and Fire Support Equipment (FSE) concepts, general principles, and specialized practices.
Those concepts, principles, and practices are characterized as requiring extended specialized training, experience, and skill in applying this expertise to difficult and complex tasks such as planning and conducting work that requires significant judgment in evaluating, selecting, adapting precedents, modifying procedures and criteria.
Expand, assess, and maintain standard and non-standard Night Vision Electro-optical (NVEO) prototypes, Laser, Navigation and Guidance systems to include unique design of new tooling, test equipment, and procedures to evaluate and repair all VAS and FSE systems.
Maintain proficiency in the operation and maintenance of all VAS and FSE equipment, tools and accessories necessary to support one of the largest inventories of NVEO in the military.
Perform inspection, maintenance, and major repairs (beyond depot level) on all NVEO equipment.
Perform support, such as inventory & tum in of Class IX parts, acquisition of publications, catalogue support, calibration control, cleaning, Field and Sustainment level maintenance, tools and capital equipment maintenance.
Document all transactions, inspections, and repairs of NVEO equipment for historical, research and development purposes.
Provide continuous support and guidance to Combat Development Directorate (CDD) on development of new night vision products along with other optical systems and Fire Support Equipment.
Collaborate with Combat Development Directorate and Industry for test and evaluation of new products in order to stay ahead of the latest technology and exploit our tactical advantage in support of current and future operations.
Assist in the research of new night vision equipment, provide feedback for modifications to existing equipment and interface with vendor to discuss progress of product and design changesApply existing/emerging technologies to ensure the SOF comm1mity remains on the leading edge of military night vision systems development while ensuring items tested/procured are compatible with other components and equipment within the Special Operation Forces (SOF) community.
Write detail, clear and precise technical procedures to maintain/repair all VAS and FSE equipment.
Maintain awareness of Military and Commercial developments and practices within the NVEO community through conferences, tours/meetings, market research, and trade publications.
Make recommendations for equipment/devices for procurement and addition to the NVEO program to improve techniques, equipment, and survivability.
Attend major NVEO conferences and provide report of latest state of the art technology to the SOF community.
Write Memorandum of Instruction (MOI) for operator users to provide training on night vision use and field level maintenance.
Provide optical test to operators to ensure proper fit with a diopter assembly that will correct refractive error and allow them to see properly.
Provide assistance to multiple military and government agencies on night vision equipment, procedures, training, and guidance on shop set up.
Provide capability brief and demo of all NVEO and FSE equipment to numerous high ranking military, DOD, HLS, and other agencies.
Ability to work in the absence of formal procedures when needed.
(Prototypes).
Provide acceptance testing or provide procedure for acceptance testing of new products.
Train military soldiers on basic maintenance and-light repair of NV G's and FSE's equipment prior to deployment.
Keep all existing software for NVEO and FSE equipment up to date.
Have the ability to adapt to an ever evolving work environment.
Specs, requirements, procedures, and equipment are always changing with development and upgrades.
Use knowledge, experience and judgment that shape the future of night vision products.
Assist with product changes, approval of modifications, and assuring positive outcomes of multimillion dollar projects for the Government customer.
HARD REQUIREMENTS:
Experience level includes;(15+) years (hands on) experience with NVEO.
NVEO shop supervisor is desirable.
(15+) years (hands on) experience troubleshooting complex NVEO issues.
Operational Test & Evaluation (OT&E) or Research & Development (R&D) experience is highly desirable.
(10+) years' experience as a trainer in the field of visual augmented systems.
EDUCATION:
Military or civilian training (accredited College Degree and/or equivalent military/occupational experience) in Electronics Technologies, Night Vision/Electro-optical Devices, or Optical Disciplines.
